Bring to Birth a New World

I think what I want to drive home most is that this election didn't just happen. This is the culmination of right-wing grassroots organizing and liberal/centrist classism, indifference, and privilege. The right identified the issues of the working class before any left-leaning coalition did and, thereby, had free range to diagnose those issues and prescribe their solutions. And they did that work within local communities, largely among folks who the Democrats left behind. Since then, the liberals have only worked within the framework and ideology of the right's diagnosis and prescriptions, failing to identify the material problems of the working class and address them accordingly — which experienced leftists, shunned by the institutions of liberal democracy, have been trying to do for decades.

We can feel all the rage and grief we feel in the safety of our spaces, but we have to recognize that we, as progressives and leftists and the working class as a whole, are being played by the state and capital. And we know that cutting people off, hiding ourselves, and posturing are ineffective strategies for change. The right has watched us fumble with this strategy for years. We have to find new resolve and tactics in our organizing. We must find our goodness and love, thereby our patience, not just for our dearests but our entire world. Our world as it is and as it could be. The call has come to move beyond blame and toward transformation.

We have to genuinely start forming community within our communities. This means providing home and health care, practical education, support groups, meals, and so on and so forth. Material goods. Only then, with trust in one another, can we begin to truly educate and organize the working folk at large. It will require work. It will require us to hold ourselves emotionally and mentally accountable for our bouts of carceral blabber and vengefulness. But it is work that must be done. The people can no longer wait for something to birth the new world, we must do it ourselves, together.
